RUTA – REGIONAL THEATRE FESTIVAL
Between 29th January and 4th February 2027, the Ljubljana City Theatre will host the sixth edition of the regional theatre festival RUTA—a unique event that, since 2019, has brought together six leading theatres from six countries across the former Yugoslavia.
The theatres forming Ruta (the Regional Union of Theatres) are Belgrade Drama Theatre, Skopje Drama Theatre, Sarajevo Chamber Theatre 55, Zagreb/Brijuni Ulysses Theatre, Culture Centre Tivat and Ljubljana City Theatre as a host. We are delighted that the Ivan Vazov National Theatre from Sofia (Bulgaria) will be participating in the sixth Ljubljana festival.
From the very beginning, the primary goal of the Ruta festival has been: to strengthen cultural ties that transcend national borders and to create a space for artistic collaboration. The festival has become a well-known event that is not only a celebration of theatre but also an opportunity for artists, technical crews, and our loyal audience to come together.
This is a major cultural event that is gaining recognition at both the local and regional levels. The honorary patron of the Ruta Festival is Zoran Janković, Mayor of Ljubljana.
