Three Million Minutes

Four friends are longtime partners and founders of a successful company. In addition to their success and a great deal of common memories, they also share a »business secret«. For quite a while, they lead parallel accounts: they transfer the money to Switzerland to evade taxes. The CEO finds out they are being tracked by the finance department and that the agents could demand access to their computers and files any day. Their lawyer offers a solution: if one of the partners transfers all profit to her own account, she will be considered the only culprit. The one who makes the sacrifice would face jail-time, presumably 7 years, thus saving the others and the company. The four upset partners hire a mediator to help.

During mediation, the elements of a business thriller and criminal drama turn into an intense play of psychological traits. Eventually, morals disappear to succumb to pragmatism. Loyalty, treason and rationality are being put to test.

The screenplay author José Cabeza is a scriptwriting professor at the Rey Juan Carlos University in Madrid. The blockbuster movie has had several theatre adaptations to date.

The movie 7 años was produced by Netflix in 2016 as the first Netflix Spanish production. As a cliffhanging psychological thriller, where all the action is set in a single room, it has been compared to the movie classic 12 Angry Men (1957).
