Theatre for a Dummy

Matiček and Nežka, the characters from Linhart's comedy The Merry Day or Matiček's Wedding, are arguing where to put their double bed and how to tackle Baron Naletel's plans regarding them as a couple, since he can hardly  hide his passion for Nežka, when they are interrupted by inspector Žužek. The actors attempt to silence the intruder, but the inspector decisively stops the performance. He writes down one offence after the other in his notebook, because the objects on stage are not equipped with inventory numbers, strangely dressed people are not willing to provide their real names, they receive guests at their workplace and generally interfere with the official investigation. The arrogant inspector threatens to close the theatre down and ban any sort of activity going on. Fearing the strict inspector, some actors flee the theatre, while the actress playing baroness Rozalka gives the inspector an ultimatum: either he gives back the money the audience paid for the show or brings the show to an end with three remaining actors. The inspector gives up and is guided through the show in which each performing artist has to play at least two characters.

Obviously, there is no shortage of comical elements, funny improvisations and ridiculous situations, for inspector Žužek hasn't got the slightest idea about theatre and is learning about the theatre constraints and peculiarities along with the audience.
