Silent Breath

A year after their father`s unexpected death, an estranged family reunites to see the yolungest daughter off as she leaves to study in Ljubljana.

The youngest, whom the family calls Kiddo, has got two siblings, both more than ten years her senior, and a mother who does not understand her (or any of her kids). The whole family has been affected by the loss of the father more than they are willing to admit. Petra, who lives with her boyfriend Janez in Ljubljana, is going thorugh a sad phase. Her brother Marjan, the eldest of the siblings, still lives at home and seems to have given up on life.

As the play opens, Kiddo retells the family story froma perspective in which the people around her are no longer what they used to be, some of them are not even present anymore. Silent Breath is a one-act play about a family whose little tragedies are the tragedies of us all, a play that is reluctant to judge what we are, bur merely observes the parts in which we are the most human.

In Silent Breath the author does not only dissect a typical Slovenian family, but explores feelings of being lost and lacking any prospects, as well the burning ambition of the generation Y, and other most up-to-date features of Slovenian everyday reality.

In his new play, commissioned by the Ljubljana City Theatre, Nejc Gazvoda (1985) continues to explore family pathologies he elaborated in his earlier play Changing of the Guard and a theatre crime series Crow Gate. With Silent Breath, the multi-awarded author, screenwriter, film and theatre director, hailed as one of the most distinguished voices of his generation, will present himself for the first time in a double role on the Main Stage. In Silent Breath he does not only dissect a typical Slovenian family, but explores feelings of being lost and lacking any prospects, as well the burning ambition of the generation Y, and other most up-to-date features
