Igor Likar IMAGES IN THE VOICE OR PLAY POLIČ

PODOBE V GLASU ALI PLAY POLIČ

Interactive Theatre Project

Director Igor Likar

Premiere: January 2012

»A radiophonic lab on stage can offer a big and colourful spectacle for one’s imagination. The tapes are rolling in each of the four corners of the stage, in the dusk, and on barely illuminated tape recorders, i.e. the strange protagonists. Standing beside them are costumed images, resembling members of an orchestra, waiting for the soloist. The great performer! The cameras above are recording the waiting and the motion. The projection on the screen comes from the darkness. The space is stretching in a holographic manner – following the synchronous soundings of sound. There are this sculptures too – the shadows of waiting and standing microphones, absorbing the voice and re-creating it – into the labyrinths of sound and images. And between them walks, breaths and speaks the actor, moving from one image to another. Following him are light, supporting actors, costumes, pictures, projections of visible encounters … and the sound already seen. We are breathing with them – until they follow the voice and (over)step into us. Until all the material is resurrected within us. « (Igor Likar, the Credo for the NEW INTERACTIVE RADIOPHONE THEATRE).

The performance explores the space between the body and the voice, between the sound image, produced by the imagination of the listener and the stage illusion, occurring to the viewer. Where is the boundary? Within the visibility of the heard. Within us, within our imagination, (e)vocation, within the synthesis of sensual images

THE IMAGES IN THE VOICE is also a theatrical document about the actor, Radko Polič, travelling around his various former roles through stage images - acting as a self-questioning about the boundaries of sympathetic images or as a kind of interactive, non-voluminous guide through them and our thoughts about them.  The performance THE IMAGES IN THE VOICE may simultaneously function for the viewer as a contemporary conceptual study of the interactive spatial effect of meanings (of words, voices, sounds, thoughts, movement and light) and limitations or openness of the stage images towards imagination. Namely, the stage images, ad finem, all transcend within the viewer's imagination, i.e. are finally revived upon the co-creation of the actor's double within us, i.e. the viewers, with which we identify and then easily travel around his worlds. We live in him. We are one with him. One with him in a compassionate virtual image.

There is the stage space, and at its forefront the actor's image – on the junction of self-questionings and the connection of all roads towards images.

Therefore, the play THE IMAGES IN THE VOICE or PLAY POLIČ depicts and explores in a theatrical manner the spaciousness of imagination – around and at the boundaries of sound and voice, those that provoke – the spaciousness of the images in the voice (a dimension of the Ancient Greek Orphism!). Using the synesthetic effects of the light, movement and stage images, it explores not only the coordinates of the acoustic space, but also those of our imagination space in general.
